The next collection from the hugely influential girls horror comic 'Misty'. Following up our hit first volume of the 'horror comic for girls' with another collection of two stories: The Sentinels and End of The Line. Misty was a revolutionary concept by 2000 AD's creator Pat Mills in 1978 and left its mark on a whole generation of young women. The two identical tower blocks, known as 'The Sentinels' to the locals, stand tall over the town of Birdwood - but only one is occupied while the other remains mysteriously empty. When Jan Richards' family lose their home they decide to hide out in the abandoned block so they can stay together, only to be sent into a parallel world where the Nazis conquered Britain in 1940... In End of the Line, Ann's father was one of a group of engineers believed to have been killed whilst working on an extension to the London Underground but when she and her mother are invited to the opening of the new train tunnel, Ann discovers a mysterious time portal through which several workers are being kept as slaves by an evil Victorian called Lord Vicary. * Never before collected this is the comic that readers have been calling for for years. It was a big influence on many including Kick-Ass, Kingsman and Woman in Black screenwriter Jane Goldman. * This stand-alone collection contains the entire run of Misty's two most popular strips * A forgotten chiller from the heady days of ground-breaking British comics. * From the new Treasury of British Comics list from Rebellion, highlighting classic British comics. * Previous titles: The Ballad of Halo Jones 9781781084526; Misty 9781781084533

Mystical relics. Powerful vampires. Strange allies. It's hell being a teenager. Larna Collins has never understood why her dad skipped out on her and her mother when she was twelve years old. Until then, he was a devoted and loving father. But six years later, during a renovation of her childhood home, she unearths her father's journal from under a dusty floorboard. According to his final entry before he left, he had recently visited a small parish in England. The entries drew her to this seemingly quaint village, which Larna discovers isn't as charming as its blood-craving inhabitants want her to believe, and she learns that she isn't the only one trying to track her father down. Could this explain her father's disappearance? Or was placing her in the center of danger her dad's master plan all along?

Measuring Human Rights, Gender Violence, and Sex Trafficking

We live in a world where seemingly everything can be measured. We rely on indicators to translate social phenomena into simple, quantified terms, which in turn can be used to guide individuals, organizations, and governments in establishing policy. Yet counting things requires finding a way to make them comparable. And in the process of translating the confusion of social life into neat categories, we inevitably strip it of context and meaning—and risk hiding or distorting as much as we reveal. With The Seductions of Quantification, leading legal anthropologist Sally Engle Merry investigates the techniques by which information is gathered and analyzed in the production of global indicators on human rights, gender violence, and sex trafficking. Although such numbers convey an aura of objective truth and scientific validity, Merry argues persuasively that measurement systems constitute a form of power by incorporating theories about social change in their design but rarely explicitly acknowledging them. For instance, the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report, which ranks countries in terms of their compliance with antitrafficking activities, assumes that prosecuting traffickers as criminals is an effective corrective strategy—overlooking cultures where women and children are frequently sold by their own families. As Merry shows, indicators are indeed seductive in their promise of providing concrete knowledge about how the world works, but they are implemented most successfully when paired with context-rich qualitative accounts grounded in local knowledge.

You can’t look at the mixed lineup of this lot and not ask yourself what is it that makes a man compelling? One universal might be pulling power. Warren Beatty with a hair drier or 007 with a Walther PPK both did a brisk trade in the sack and again we return to the mystique of Valentino, to pose a threat the volcano needs to be active not just a smoking threat. Hard men are good to find, or that is at least what Hollywood has learnt and yet each generation of Hunk Sapiens mutates subtly. The stars that we loved in the 80s and 90s are middle aged men now and to some degree they fought for better roles with more depth of character, breaking the mould of grunty action hero or merely handsome romantic lead. This is true of the thinking woman's love Gods, Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson, Richard Gere and Viggo Mortensen but of little concern to the likes of Sly, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mel Gibson the three icons of unreconstructed muscled manhood as famous for their off screen alpha rage as their onscreen battles. Marney the Fox is a Lassie-style tale of a lone fox up against wicked humans via Watership Down and Fantastic Mr Fox. Written by the late M Scott Goodall and beautifully illustrated by John Stokes, Marney the Fox is a Tarka the Otter-style tale of a lone fox, channelling Lassie and The Fantastic Mr Fox along the way. Marney is a young fox trying to survive against the odds, from dodging blood-thirsty humans to encountering other wild animals. This is a beautifully illustrated story capturing the British countryside and wildlife in astonishing detail showcases Stokes' finest work, a masterpiece that has lain un-reprinted for decades and makes an ideal children's book and early Christmas present. * This extraordinarily beautiful book is a lost classic from children's literature and makes a perfect Christmas gift. * There is no other children's graphic novel like it, for its breathtaking rendition of the English countryside and the moving story that owes nods to Tarka the Otter in its sensitive portrayal of animals. * Never before collected. * From the new Treasury of British Comics list from Rebellion, highlighting classic British comics.
